TV Licensing declaration form -Pay attention to the words, don't just assume you know the answers
It’s that time of the year when the government is asking you again if you use or ever used a TV streaming service?
If YES, then read carefully the declaration form as with any document that you ever need to sign.
The form is made in a way to trick your mind and if you are not careful enough it will make you sign a false declaration as if you will need a TV licencing and is no way back.
Once you declare you need a TV licence, then is your declaration and you will have to pay for it
The form questions are simple enough but they don’t keep the same pattern and the reason for that is TO MAKE YOU PAY even if you think you don’t need to pay.
If the first set of questions (4 of them) are formulated to expect a NO answer if you don’t watch TV or any of the streaming platform they list
“Do you or does anyone in your household ever watch…”
The next set of questions (2 of them) are formulated in a way to expect a YES answer if you don’t watch and record any of the listed services
“Can you confirm that you and your household never watch…”
Instead of doing mistakes, do the declaration form right
So if you are in a rush and you assume that if you are not using any of the services listed you can fast click on all the NOs and submit the form, then you are committing a mistake which will cost you money for the next year.
It will also create a debate for the next years that will come, when you will have to submit new declarations and when maybe you will do the right checks for not needing a TV licence, but if you will be under the same circumstances, the next declarations will contradict the one you might just have submitted wrong so you will get under more rigorous checks.
For the form to be valid as a declaration of a person that does not need a TV licensing, the last 2 question needs a YES answer because they are asking to confirm that it is TRUE that neither you and your household never watch and record TV streaming services.
If you checked the right answers and you don’t need a TV licence then you will get a submit response as
“Based on your answers, it looks like you don’t need a TV Licence”
If you submit the wrong answers and you made a declaration as needing a TV licence when you actually don’t need one, it seems that you can ask for a Refund and cancellation request a link that you will find on the same page after submitting the declaration form.
